  • The History of Modern Hot Air Ballooning. In 1973, Dave Wesner witnessed the First World Hot Air Balloon Championships at the tender age of five.  American Balloon's Tom Oerman was there, too, as one of four U.S. pilots selected by competition to participate in this prestigious event.  Dave's site is a unique and comprehensive view of the early days of "Modern" hot air ballooning, with lots of great pictures.  www.ballooninghistory.com/
